Protect your sensitive scalp with the new shampoo cream by Vichy Laboratories

REVIEW: VICHY DERCOS ULTRA SOOTHING SULFATE-FREE HAIR CREAM

When I received this bright blue bottle by Vichy, I was super excited. The new Dercos Ultra Soothing Cleansing shampoo for coloured hair actually comes in a cream form.

I know it says so on the packaging but I genuinely expected it to react to water like a shampoo, but…

WHAT DOES IT PROMISE?

The latest shampoo by Vichy Laboratories is meant to “gently wash hair, to protect coloured and sensitized hair and to immediately and permanently soothe the sensitive scalp.”

First of all, the packaging is cute! It comes in a bright blue bottle with black and pink writing. I really like the pump bottle, which I prefer over your regular shampoo packaging,
The next plus is definitely that it is paraben, colouring and sulphate FREE!

This cream formula is formulated especially for sensitive scalp. It is supposed to soothe the scalp for the next 48h after using it.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

1 – Use 2-5 pumps of hair cream (depending on your hair length)
2 – Apply the cream to the roots of your hair
3 – Massage your scalp for a couple of minutes
4 – Add a little bit of water to get an emulsion type consistency
5 – Add another pump of hair cream
6 – Continue massaging the cream throughout the length of your hair
7 – Gently rinse off

MY OPINION:

When I first tried it, I was kind of disappointed. I started using it without reading the instructions first. I wanted to give you a genuine review that isn’t be influenced by their marketing campaign. But I guess instructions and product info are there for a reason, aren’t they? 🙂
I expected it to foam up – as we usually do with our shampoos, to smell nice and leave my hear looking amazing.
But this Vichy Dercos Soothing Cream did not foam at all. My first impression was made and I was pretty sure I was not going to like this product.
Today, after quite some time of using it, I can tell you this. Shampoos that do not contain sulphates, usually don’t lather up that much, especially when they come in a cream form.
So, I think you should know what you’re working with and not expect the product to behave in a way that it wasn’t meant to.

I actually really like this product – it leaves my hair silky smooth and soft. And it sure does not give you an itchy scalp. I think this is a nice product that leaves your hair looking healthy.
Although I will continue using it, I must say I’ve noticed my hair gets greasy a lot sooner when I use it. I used to wash my hair 2x times a week, but now I have to do it more often.
It is also important that I mention that I have thin hair, so this Vichy hair cream might work just fine on thicker hair, meaning you won’t have to change your hair care routine.

It’s so hard to find a shampoo that actually does something really amazing for your hair. I’m still struggling to find something for my dry ends.

Sounds very good! I have tried a similar product from L’Oreal and i liked it. Great presentation!

Thank you! I also gravitate towards products for sensitive skin, scalp, etc… Nothing worse than being itchy.

I got a few Vichy products from an Influenster box last year and fell totally in love. Such a great brand!

They do have some gems in their line! 🙂

Give it a go Nora and let me know what you think about it. I’m curious.

I don’t think I would want to use a product if it increased the amount of times I would have to do something instead of decreasing it. I’d probably not go with this product then.

You are right. I got super excited because it is natural – paraben and sulphate free but I think it all depends on your hair type in the end.

Thanks for an honest review. I also have fine hair so may stay away from this product for the time being.

    • 17/10/2017 / 13:28

I agree with you. I will continue to test it further to see how it works when you use less product or wash your hair with it less frequently and switch shampoos in between.

I like the idea of the pump bottle! Nothing is worse than soapy shampoo bottles slipping out of fingers!

    • 17/10/2017 / 13:27

I agree. They really hit the nail on the head with the bottle design.

  9. 17/10/2017 / 19:51

I have coloured hair so this is might come in handy! I already use a shampoo that doesn’t make foam so I’m already used to that. Thanks for sharing your review, I might try this!

Sounds like a really interesting product! I do find my scalp can get itchy and irritated from time to time, so this would be a product worth considering.

I have never heard of this type of product. I liked hearing about your experience. I like product reviews.

I’m so bad at not reading instructions haha! Definitely something I would do, but glad it worked for you in the end.

      Hahahha… I think we’re all a bit like that. 🙂

    • 23/10/2017 / 10:17

You are welcome. Let me know how it goes if you try it.

That’s good that you did some research into the product after trying it out and thinking it wasn’t working right. I think I would have panicked myself. But then again I am a guy so I probably don’t read instructions as much as I should, unless I am putting together a piece of furniture which is a whole other issue.

    • 23/10/2017 / 10:09

Oh, men… :)) But I know what you mean, who would have thought you need to read shampoo instructions nowadays. 😀
