Winter Wonderland in Kranjska Gora

Winter Wonderland in Kranjska Gora
Spread the love

They say the best traveller is the one with no camera, but how could I not share with you one of the most beautiful places in Slovenia? Welcome to Kranjska Gora – the place where people go to escape from their busy lives. This is where you will find fresh air and shades of green that you’ve never seen before. It is definitely one of my favourite parts of Slovenia.

Start your day with a nice morning walk by the Jasna Lake in Kranjska Gora. It consists of two interconnected artificial lakes that together form a lovely spot popular with locals as well as tourists. The area is popular with families as kids love to take photos of the bronze ibex. In the winter time, Jasna Lake turns into a winter wonderland that invites you with its lovely trails spread around the area.

When you get tired of admiring the nature by the Jasna Lake, (and I used the term tired here very loosely as there is no way you could get tired of starring in such beauty), head on the road towards the village of Podkoren. There, on the southern side of the main road you will find the natural reserve – Zelenci Lake. This for me, even though small in size, is one of the prettiest lakes in Slovenia. I think part of its charm derives from the fact that it’s so tiny and not so in-your-face as perhaps the best known Bled Lake.

Natural reserve Zelenci as seen from above.

The path will take you through the woods that during the winter resemble a fairy tale with the heavy tree branches all covered up in snow. The walk to the Lake is short but sweet. Since the lake does not freeze during winter, its natural emerald green colour becomes even more prominent againt the snowy background.

I think we are so cought up in the idea that we must travel the world, that we tend to neglect the lovely places that are just around the corner. Sometimes it’s a nice change to be a tourist in your own country and to be reminded that the grass is not necesseraly greener on the other side. Sometimes the true discoveries happen when you least expact them – right at home.

Until next time…

Looks absolutely beautiful! Finland is a beautiful place to spend winter if there is snow, but this year we’re still waiting for it.

Somehow this year Slovenia has had snow a couple of times already. This winter is just one of my favourites – cold and dry.

One I am a girl from Miami Florida so anywhere with snow is like a dream to me. That lake was so stinking gorgeous. I looooove going to the mountains, I feel so calm and centered there. This looks like an absolute fantasy!

Slovenia is known as the “green” country – we have lots of lakes and stunning intact nature. You should definitely visit someday!

Oh my goodness, what a stunning landscape! I don’t know what I would do around that much snow. I’ve only ever seen it a handful of times.

Res je – med drugim je to tudi en tistih krajev, na katerega me vežejo lepi spomini iz otroštva in se posledično vedno rada vračam tja. 🙂
